Autumn Equinox Picnic 2008

Our Winter Solstice Party and our Summer Solstice Picnic are always well-attended loads of fun. But we've been letting the Equinoxes slip by without celebrating. Not this Autumn!

We've reserved the same fabulous venue we used at the Summer Solstice Picnic: Pine Lake Park. Pine Lake Park is located in the southwest quadrant of San Francisco, just north of Sloat Boulevard between 19th Avenue and 34th Avenue. The park is a beautiful eucalyptus-lined meadow next to Stern Grove, site of the famous outdoor summer concerts. The Equinox Picnic will be held Saturday, September 13. Mark your calendars!

We'll get started about 11 AM and stay until about 4 PM. Please bring a potluck dish to share and $5 per person to cover reservation and food/drink costs. Grilled burgers and hot dogs with all the fixin's will be provided, as well as water, soft drinks, beer and wine.

There will be a rather special event occurring at the Equinox Picnic. The most righteous Phinneus T. Calhoun, otherwise known as The Freakin' Deacon from the Church of the South, promises to stop by and share with us some rather startling and revealing truths about Baptism, and the steps we can take to rectify a most grievous situation that affects many of us. If you have ever wanted to be truly set free, you will not want to miss the Deacon's talk. Please welcome him as he brings "the word of truth" to our gathering.

Make your plans to celebrate the Equinox with your fellow Atheists on September 13. Although this is usually the best time of year for comfortable warm weather in The City, dress in layers just in case. You may want to bring something extra for the grill, frisbee, football, ball and glove, blanket, Scrabble, and even your dog (a popular dog run is between the parking lot and the picnic site).

Getting There

Car: Parking is easy at the park's 100-car parking lot. Turn north on Vale Avenue to enter the park. Park then walk the trail west to the picnic area. Click here for a Google map with interactive driving directions.
